Skin Peels

Agera products

The revolutionary proliferative peels created by Agera® Rx are non-irritating, pain free and cause no down time from skin shedding, redness or irritation. These unique treatments cause significant stimulation of the fibroblasts deep within the skin to produce new collagen and elastin. This proliferative effect on the skin’s cells delivers many anti-ageing benefits without any unsightly skin shedding or redness. After only one session, the skin will look clearer, smoother and brighter. A course of 5 is recommended.

The LA Peel

For rejuvenating, for beauty, for you! (Rooks, L. 2010)

The LA peel s a physician dispensed skin peel which treats Acne, Pigmentation, Open Pores and some fine lines.

The solution includes 14% each of Resorcinol, lactic acids and salicylic acid. Each ingredient performs an important function in the peeling process.

What are these Ingredients?

Resorcinol is a derivative of Phenol and has been used in skin peeling for over 100 years. Resorcinol helps to provide a numbing effect and increases the depth of the lactic acid and salicylic acid penetration. Some down time may be associated with re-epithelialization, along with the occurrence of a “resorcinol membrane” or a greyish appearance of the skin approximately 24 hours post-peel. The grey-brown membrane lasts for 2-3 days until visible peeling occurs.

Lactic acid occurs naturally in human skin as a part of metabolic processes. Several studies have shown that lactic acid has a natural moisturizing effect on the skin. In the 1960’s dermatologists noted that when lactic acid was used in a moisturizer, it enhanced absorption of the moisturizer into the skin. This characteristic enables the lactic acid to work in conjunction with the other two agents to enhance the evenness of the LA peel.

Salicylic Acid penetrates directly into skin follicles, making it a very important component of the LA peel solution. As well as absorbing into the broad skin surface, this acid goes directly into the waxy buildup associated with acne. Salicylic acid unroofs comedones and pustules, opening the sebaceous gland and stimulating the elimination of wastes.

Treatment of Acne

The LA solution tends to decrease oil production and open sebaceous follicles. It contributes to the healing process of pustular acne. After the LA peel procedure, but before the application of OPC Reparative Gel, comedone extractions can be performed very easily. Continue with the Theraderm Skin Renewal System. It is helpful to allow time for the acne inflammation and/or infection healing process to be completed before following with another LA peel. Please allow at least 3-4 weeks between peels, the skin should be completely re epethililzed, before further peeling.

Advantages of the LA Peel

Developed through research and clinical trials •Simple and Effective •Predictable results •Minimal Complications •Multiple areas (face, neck, hands, décolleté) can be treated at the same time •Self limiting – no need to neutralise •Adding successive layers controls depth or level of peeling •Significant visible peeling •Suitable for all skin types •Skin healing in 3 – 5 days •Improves smoothness and texture of the skin •Increases new skin Collagen and elastin production Diminishes fine lines

Pre Treatment

Patient should begin using the Theraderm Skin Renewal System twice daily, 2-4 weeks prior to the peel procedure. The system will begin repairing the skin surface even before the peel is done. Patient should avoid sun exposure, and should use a sunscreen with an SPF 30. This is to ensure that the patient’s skin is not red or irritated before the peel, thus reducing the chances of hyperpigmentation. It is not necessary to clean the skin surface with acetone or alcohol, but these can be used for further cleansing of deep wrinkle lines and crease lines, which allows for a slightly deeper peel in those areas. Please note that if the skin is rubbed with acetone, some exfoliation occurs pre-peel, and the peel solution will cause erythema or redness associated with a deeper peel earlier in those areas.
